Investment in people makes the difference for Southam developer
Bloor Homes South Midlands, which operates the Southam Grange development in Southam, is celebrating its approach to growing and nurturing talent, having increased the number of regional employees by more than 80% in the last 5 years.
A family owned housebuilder with 10 developments across Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, Bloor Homes places great importance on training and development, offering employees a genuine career path which sees them draw on the experience and knowledge of more senior staff for support.
Indeed, since the commencement of the trainee and apprenticeship scheme in 2013, 12 site apprentices and five Trainee Engineers and Architectural Technicians have joined the South Midlands team, benefiting from both financial support to fund their ongoing education and the chance to learn on the job from experienced professionals.
Regional managing director, Richard Sarraff comments: “As one of the largest family run house builders in the UK people really do sit at the heart of our success.
“We always look to recruit talented, dedicated and passionate individuals but our commitment goes much further; it is about ensuring each team member has a clear path for progression and always feels valued so that we can retain both them and their expertise within the business.”
One such employee who has benefited from Bloor Homes’ commitment to mentoring is recently promoted Assistant Engineer, Charlie Waumsley.
Having joined the company in 2013 as a Trainee Engineer, Charlie undertook a HNC in Engineering. After two years Charlie was lucky enough to have the opportunity to continue with his qualifications by commencing his BEng in Civil Engineering and is encouraging other aspiring engineers within the area to consider a similar path.
Charlie explains: “Undertaking a professional qualification alongside a trainee role where I got the chance to demonstrate my ability from day one was the best decision I ever made. The support I have received from the Bloor Homes team has been fantastic – as well as funding and supporting me through college and now university, they have taught me so much more.
“I have gained invaluable guidance from colleagues across the business and the satisfaction I get from knowing I am helping to build the perfect home for someone is second to none.
“When I complete my degree I won’t owe a penny and I will already have five years on the job experience – what could be better than that.”
Richard concludes: “At Bloor Homes we are always looking for talented individuals to join our team – if you want become part of a business that will value you and your ideas why not get in touch.”

"It has truly been a pleasure dealing with your colleagues who assisted in our purchase of 23 Beverley Road and the sale of 39 Brookhurst Road. This customer experience (including when we purchased 39 Brookhurst Court last year) has undoubtedly given us the confidence to approach eHB for our future real estate needs. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Clive, Juliana, Chris and Louise. They were polite and courteous and we were very pleased with the level of professionalism and strong work ethic that they demonstrated at all times. In our experience, we found eHB working to a very high standard of customer care and this, we believe, is the key differentiator that must be maintained by successful companies in a competitive market. Clive, Juliana and Chris invested time in learning about our particular needs and they impressed us with their strong dedication to customer service. Their relaxed and informative style gave us the confidence that our sale and purchases were in safe hands from the outset and, of course, we are totally happy with the outcomes. In particular, they were diligent and meticulous in their approach and we found this to be very reassuring indeed. Your colleagues did an excellent job. We would be grateful if you could convey our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Clive, Juliana, Chris and Louise. Well done! Kind regards Mushy & Laraine "
